BEST TELEFEATURE OR MINI SERIES
BEST DIRECTION IN TELEVISION

BEST GUEST OR SUPPORTING ACTOR IN TELEVISION DRAMA
but Aaron Pedersen wasn't nominated for Best Actor. Obviously they felt he contributed nothing to the success of the series.

Emily McMullan says:
The Circuit was the most outstanding drama series I have ever seen. I am a law student and am extremely interested in indigenous issues. In the face of all the negative media and talk today, it is so important for the public to have access to a grounded and non-judgmental perspective. I have spent some time living in the community of Kintore, in Central Australia, and this series provided a realistic and interesting view of community life. The actors were fantastic- the show was really superbly cast and each and every character was fascinating and realistic. The storyline was believable and intriguing- I eagerly anticipated my Circuit fix every week! The scenery was simply beautiful and made me remember what a beautiful country I live in. The show really gives us a glimpse into the complexities of Aboriginal culture, allowing people access, even in the slightest way, to a world that is foreign to so many people.
Please, please bring this show back as a full series! To leave us hanging is a crime! This is an honest, entertaining and much needed voice in our society today.
5 September 2007
Susan Griffin says:

Absolutely fantastic script and acting. The best Australian series for a long time. Looks like it was written to be a follow on. It challenges us with many topical issues makes us think - life isn't black and white, but lots of gray, and treating people "equally" doesn't mean treating them all the same. !

j davis says:
This was an excellent series from many perspectives: storyline; realism; balanced; production values. The Indigenous actors shone over most of the non-Indigenous actors. A more popular timeslot would have made it more accessible to a broader audience. In the NT one episode was rudely terminated by the Tour de France! Please bring it back at an earlier timeslot.

I have been lucky to visit Aus a few times and toured parts of the outback but this series gave me a new perspective. It should be compulsory viewing to anyone interested in the indigenous culture (and even those that say they aren't).
I do so hope it gets rightly recognised at the next Logies.

conrad macrokanis says:
I live and work in Broome. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the series - recognising faces and places (although not true indication obviously). The images were dramatic and well done. I thought the issues were raised relatively well, though there was some consensus that they were left rather open - which is reflective of reality and not hollywood. Of interest, it was female friends who were your biggest champions of the show, not males. Congratulations. Very timely and provocative. I hope to see more!!
15 August 2007
C Lloyd says:
I loved this show and hope another series will be produced. It is great to watch quality Australian drama and not just overseas programmes. Congratulations to the producers and all the staff on this series for great television. My only complaint was that it was on at 9.30pm. It should have been on earlier.

SBS - you have done it again! The Circuit was an outstanding series and like a breath of fresh in the otherwise stale atmosphere of quality TV drama, and best of all it was HIGH QUALITY Australian drama.

15 August 2007
Donna says:
Brilliant series. Echo everone's positive thoughts hereunder. Can anyone tell me exactly who sings the song called "Arafura Sea" that was sung at the end of the 3rd or 4th episode? I've done a bit of research but don't seem to be able to pinpoint exactly who sings it.
15 August 2007
Rosalie says:
Couldnt agree more wit all the praise - great acting & interesting plot lines, but also confronting, moving and intelligent. I am really hoping that SBS makes a second series. In the meantime I'll buy the DVD and lend it around to all those who missed this great Australian show.
However, the new ALS lawyer introduced in the final episode was too naive and culturally insenstive to be true - surely they are still not coming out like this?
Even though I'm just a whitefella, I've heard that some Aboriginal people also think highly of the Circuit.
Big thanks to everyone involved and please keep up the good work!
15 August 2007
G. Harkin says:
I'm aged and have always been a critical observer of film and television and theatre. Am probably also a little weary of indigenous issues,.. but this series is about as good as I have ever seen. The script, casting, acting and direction is superb, as is the filming. Congratulations.

I am so disappointed the series is over. Finally Aus. has a contempory series that is better than any American show l've ever seen. The issues, storyline, acting and backdrop holds you captive and personally involved. Can the next series show at 8.30, l've been keeping my 12,13 &14 yr old children up late just so they can watch it. Their not going to learn about Indigenous culture any where else.

Two great performanced in amongst all the other great performances. Gary Sweet and Aaron Pederson are very underrated. Aaron and Gary are fantastic actors and together with the rest of the six cast members make for a series that I hope last longer than just six episodes. 13 August 2007
Judy Macartney says:
At the end of last night's final epiode of "The Circuit" I felt a scary sense of impending loss. Each week this series has got better and better and I now feel attached to the characters and their respective struggles. Aaron Pederson is superb as Drew and Gary Sweet and the actor who plays Sam are excellent. Issues such as child and substance abuse were not skirted around. I don't suppose the John Howard found the time to watch it...
Anyway please keep this cast together so we can have more !
13 August 2007

I loved RAN and didn't think it could be equalled - but I was wrong. I would have loved The Circuit regardless, but having lived in the Kimberley I've found the series even more compelling and mesmerising - inspired casting, real and authentic storylines and lots of glorious Kimberley landscapes. The best show on TV (and hopefully a 2nd series on the way). Aaron Pedersen plays a fantastic role with real conviction - Kelton Pell was astounding in One Night the Moon just as he is in The Circuit - both gifted actors!
13 August 2007
MJ says:
Please tell me there will be another season of The Circuit! You can't leave us hanging like that! It was the best show on TV in such a long time. It was real, intelligent, informed and insightful and gave a voice to those issues so rarely approached in a genuine way. Congratulations to each and every person involved in bringing this wonderful and compelling series to the screen. I hope a second season follows.

In the hope that some of the decision makers read these postings, I am adding my voice to those in support for The Circuit and that are hoping for a second and more seasons. It is a brilliantly crafted and important show - and along with RAN the highlight of my teli watching for some time :) Thanks

Compelling show...all aspects...fine balance of realism & entertainment & education...have you considered a mediation component in a second series eg burial disputes, family law, family, stolen generations, children's court...I mediate all of these & others including with Aboriginal people...happy to say more if you're interested.

What a great show, please is there anyway we can have more episodes its a great way for australia to see what really happens in some of these communities and how hard it must be. We have indigenous kids in our care there mother died at an early age and there father can't get off the grog its hard for them and not easy for us they used to be street kids and now they go to school and realise the importance of an education and the importance of there own culture which they knew little about , but through books and culture centres we have taught them a lot about there traditions and great shows like yours teaches them even more about what grog and drugs can do to people and how it can break up families. WE WANT MORE OF THE CIRCUIT!!! IT'S GREAT!!! PLEASE PLEASE BRING ON THE CIRCUIT SEASON 2. THUMBS UP TO SBS - GREAT SHOW.

Thank you SBS and to all invloved in the making of this wonderful, dynamic and brave new Australian drama. Everything about the program was absolutely first rate - the acting, the scripts and the cinematography.
Where else on Australian televison would you see a court room drama set in a tin shed or an indigenous gay man and his white male lover? I only wish more people were watching. Looking forward to series 2!

What a magnificent programme! It explores such topical yet delicate issues with poignancy, insight and a great deal of intellect. I sincerely hope there is a second series; it's just such a pity that on this channel, at this time, its audience base is so small. Perhaps we should all write impassioned emails to the editors of the Green Guide...

There is no doubt that this is a very good show. The home truths are what many Australians need to see.
Unfortunately, there are still the hidden truths that the show touches on. For example, the line in the last episode where the DC Judge says you need more Indigenous professionals. The fact is no matter how many Indigenous persons get qualified you still have to see a white fella to get a job.
I got the qulas. I have the ability, I tried to get a job with the Aboriginal Legal Service and didn't even get an interview. Then I found out that ATSILS dont employ Indigenous solicitors.

The Circuit has been the higlight of my weeks viewing lately and I will be sad to see this current series finish. What really amazes me is the depth of aboriginal actors we seem to have in this country. Why aren't we seing more of them on screen both large and small. The filming standards are excellent and the acting is first rate. Well done to all involved.

kerstin says:
This series would have to be the BEST series I have ever seen on TV, not just on SBS. I think this show deserves more than just 6 episodes. The actors are fantastic and the story lines are so real! This show needs to continue to show people out there about our aboriginal issues and how they can be helped not treated like alcoholics and drug addicts. This show should be screened on mainstream tv as a longer series so that people can see the truth! It is such an awesome series and i really hope there is more than just one or two. Well done SBS, to the writers, directors and especially the actors who make this seriers so real!
7 August 2007

Congratulations on such a fantastic program. Its about time that a television program steps outside the boundaries of old stereotypes and broadens and shapes characters instead of typecasting. In particular the fact that the writers have chosen to show a homosexual couple that face similar problems to that of those of heterosexual couples proving we may not be so different afterall. hmmm about time...

"Absoluty Fantastic"
Havent seen a show that tackles such hard hitting issues for some time. I have watched it from the start and was hooked straight away. Gary Sweet and Andrew pederson are brilliant. Hope there will be a second longer series. Congratulations SBS.

Sharon Clarke says:
Having spent time in the outback and working in the court system this show I feel truly reflects the culture, issues and the true beauty of the northern part of this great state of ours. The acting, storylines and portrayal of the issues at hand have been done brillianlty. I wish that this series was much longer. The viewing of this program should be a must for everyone, in particular the pollies who are so out of touch with what really goes on in their own backyard. Look foward to second series.
6 August 2007

I absolutely love this series - I'm crushed that it has only 6 parts.
My husband usually refuses point blank to watch anything on SBS but even he is watching the clock on Sunday nights.
Great to see a series that actually attacks REAL issues

Finally a series with true grit. Each episode has touched me in a way that no other program has ever done (not since the movie fringe dwellers). I can relate to a lot of the issues, as they are mirror issues myself & other aboriginals have faced in our families & communities. I've cried along with Bella & felt Drew's feeling's of "being to white or not black enough", but still proud of who i am. Aboriginal yes but most impotanatly me. Hopefully there will be a 2nd series.
6 August 2007
Sandra Sinclair says:
The Circuit is Aaron Pederson's show. He has an understated acting style that gives the show a documentary feel. I hope we will see more of this show and others with this fine Australian actor.
Would it be possible to repeat "My Brother Vinnie" as I was unable to see it first time around and heve heard it is quite remarkable also.

The Circuit is the best show on TV at the moment and i am going to be very sad when it ends. I'm definetly going to have to but the DVD because i want to watch it all over again without the interruption of adds.
I just want to thank the creators of the show for protraying Indigenous Australians as the decent people that we, and for helping to break the barriers of steorotyped Indigenous Australians.
Aaron Pederson is extradinary in the lead role, and I love the lady that plays Bella, she is stunning and an excellent actress.
5 out of 5 STARS!

Congratulations SBS - what a fantastic show you and the team have managed to put together. I love the way the script writers and actors have managed to explore the complexities of the wonderful indigenous culture. I am repeating what I said about this show just after it started and that was what a fantastic show it is. Beats those artificial American shows hands down.

Congratulations SBS and to the remarkable team of film makers and actors.Brilliant drama that works on all levels and brings to life the complexities of Aboriginal culture and the need for understanding rather than intervention.
5 August 2007
Trish says:
No, six episodes is definitely not enough! And how come a magnificent programme like this is on so late at night? It's far and away better than the interminable sameness of those dreadful, pointless US 'dramas'!
*This* stuff is downright educational for all Australians. Aside from anything else, it reflects real life in Oz, not some hackneyed street-hero nonsense from La-La land! It's about time we had a good look at what's really going on in the beating heart of our country and stopped fawning after every little thing that happens in American gutters! (Sorry for the soapbox moment... Actually, no, I'm not! ;-> )
PLEASE: another, longer-running series!!!
5 August 2007
Helen says:
This is a remarkable series! More please...
5 August 2007
Peter says:
This is excellence in portraying regional Ausie reality. I don't normally bother to make comments, but I can't find fault anywhere in this series. Not only does The Circuit deliver such a close parallel to real life content in the Kimberly, it also thows open the door to greater social interaction and support, and inspires possibility throughout the area. Bring us more !
This should be a staple longterm program of SBS.
5 August 2007
Jodi says:
Thank-you SBS. The Circuit is now the second thing on T.V. that I simply cant resist! To think that some of the most amazing and emotional performances I have ever seen will be coming to so soon is a blessing. This way I can show my support for not only the great actors, directors and crew that put together this show, but also to prove that there are people out here in the "real world" who believe that it is worth at least another series.
Nothing in life is black and white and The Circuit has helped me to deal with my own inner conflict with being, to quote Sam, "A coconut".
To all the Actors, Communities, Businesses,Sponsors, Families and Friends of everyone involved with this show, I would like to say thank-you for shedding some light on my sunday nights.
5 August 2007

5 August 2007

Another fantastic Aussie drama. RAN was an absolute hit when it was produced last year - so now is The Circuit. Please don't let it remain at one series - a second one is definitely warranted!!! Well done to the shows actors and directors. Looking forward to purchasing it on DVD.

I wish I had known about this show earlier! I hope SBS repeat the series so I can watch it from start to finish. It is GREAT to see some real Australian drama on TV - with some Aboriginal faces and story lines that are engaging and not far fetched. And again - it is great to see more Aboriginal faces on TV - there aren't nearly enough of them, and apart from being a good influence and providing a point of focus for youth, it shows people that aren't in contact with aboriginal communities and peoples a more in depth look into what goes on in regional areas.
3 August 2007
Rob says:
I came across this show by chance after I watched my brother Vinnie. Aaron has some sort of presence about him as an indigenous actor. I cant wait for Sunday nights anymore and I have all my friends and family hooked on it. There is something that we can all relate to in someway and a chance for other non-indig people to see another aspect of how we live. I am also trying to decide whether to find my mob so I am waiting to see how it all pans out. The Aboriginal actors are just phenominal because as youwouldnt even know that they are acting. This show is so true. As for Gary Sweet, I was never a big fan but i am now. he is also fantastic in his role. Well done to all of you actors and crew and to SBS for producing a great show. Its a lot better than watching all those American crime shows. So keep it going. Broome is my next holiday destination, and if you are looking for a new actress....... actress

I missed last night's episode and am grieving...it is the best program ever ever, addressing allthe most important issues with integrity and honesty (no simple answers or happy endings?) All the acting is superb and I yearn to visit Broome (if I can bump into all the characters on the street!) Such a pity it is not being watched by more people- the late hour?? do please repeat it as soon as possible, this is first class a#1 tv!

Richard says:
Probably the best aussie drama ever. The acting, the scenery and the emotion. Last night (episode 4) left me shocked, heart broken and unresolved but wanting more. Thank you for high lighting the issues in a dignified way. Not only the issues we need to address to help our indigenous people. But the reality of forbidden gay love in certain communities.
30 July 2007
Briony Davis says:
Thank you SBS! It's about time we had a great Aussie show dealing with some very pertinent and complex issues in areas outside of the city. I did many trips up to Broome, Derby and Fitzroy Crossing over a couple of years and the feel of the show is authentic and raw - it's also great to see that wonderful landscape on our screens. Last nights show was articularly good but have been impressed with all of them. More please!
30 July 2007
Chris says:
It is great to see a show in which the indigenous people are central and authentically acting scenes from their lives - rather than as bit parts in white imaginings and distortions of Aboriginal life. It also shows the complexity of characters and the choices and pressures that face them. Very excellent.
I listened to talk back on Melbourne ABC radio last week and comment was outstandingly favourable and complimentary.

Patti says:
Growing up in the NT and being exposed to the content of the series time and time again in real life, I would like to say that this show is very true to the real thing..it gives Australia a look inside the lives of somewhat desperate ppl...the researchers of The Circuit have done a fantastic job...and the actors are very convincing in their roles...I have met a lot of Sam's in my life..where he can see what is needed but he as one man himself can't change a thing....I look forward to Sundays and will be sad when the show ends....Thanks for this fantastic series and I just love the Pigrim Brothers music...
30 July 2007
Chris says:
Shows the maturity of Australia when it can actually allow an Aborigine to carry the lead role. Pity it hides its maturity in the latenight slot.

Fiona Blair says:
Wow! So Australia isn't just full of middle class white people or St Kilda try-hards; quelle relief!
Haven't been interested enough to watch an Aussie show week after week like this for years; The Circuit is just great, stunning to look at, great performances, and such a relief to watch a show that's exploring (while remaining remarkably UN-preachy) the stories this country really needs to think about. Especially impressed by Leroy Parsons and Kelton Pell, but nice relaxed performances from Tammy Clarkson and Nick Simpson-Deeks. There WILL be another series won't there??? Has someone sent the PM a copy of the DVD???

Brett & Jessica Williams says:
We would just like to congratulate everyone involved with The Circuit, what a wonderful piece of television. In these times of mostly crap TV, The Circuit is a real stand out with its gutsy storylines, fantastic actors who believably portray their characters as well rounded real people with personalities not just one dimensional displays. Your team of cast, crew, etc. have got it so right with this show, we love it and would really like to see it extended from a mini-series to a regular program on our screens, any chance of this? Anyhow thanks for giving us some magnificent TV & keep up the great work.
26 July 2007

Fantastic series. Should be more of these shows about the real Australia and real Australian issues rather than the American rubbish we are dished up. Good on SBS for backing it.

elizabeth kinchela says:
i agree with what Rob Williams had said about the in and out movement of the camera.
I really do love the show and i feel it is one of the best show ever been shown on a national tv that outline the issues my people have to face everyday in one way or other.
if you need any ideas for more stories please feel free to ask me for one...lol

Tammy, I am watching religiously . . VERY proud of you!. This is a fantastic show, you have come in to your own.
25 July 2007
Rob Williams says:
It's all been said already... what an EXCELLENT series!
To note though - the 'hand held' camera movements, and jagged in / out 'dramatic' zooming is aweful to watch. It's old hat, been far too overdone, and makes it very hard to watch. It's a big turn off to a fantastic show that doesn't need such cheap film 'technique' to sell it.
25 July 2007
jo says:
Can't say i've even noticed the "shaky camerawork" because I've been so engrossed in the storyline. I love all the characters, finally some characters on TV with real depth.
What's with the whole "polluting the screen with a gay couple" attitude? that's a sick attitude if you ask me. Are people in denial that there are homosexual people? even in the indigenous community.
It's just making clear that there are many forms of inequality in Australia.
Anyway, the Circuit is a fantastic show. Well done to everyone involved. :)
25 July 2007
Tom says:
I reckon that the circuit is the best aussie drama i've seen so far im shame that i missed the first episode but anyway.. the show entails a variety of issues and i like how they are widespread throughout the community. i dont mean to be critical or anything but last episode revealed a gay couple which obviously grossed some viewers out including me. What exact point of view were you trying to get across by including a same sex relationship on the show? I suppose whatever inspired this theme was discussed and you have a vital reason for broadcasting that certain homosexuality theme on the show but i am sure you are trying to cater for everyone but remember, that community is the minority not the majority. By the way it's believed that because of the gay couple the screens are polluted. This is obscene and uncalled for, they may have their reasons but before criticising the show, researching why this was broadcasted would be vital to understanding the show without being disappointed.
25 July 2007
Rod says:
I first watched the circuit a few weeks ago and was quite impressed with this credible piece of Australian drama. However, I watched the show last sunday and was dissappointed to see the introduction of two characters involved in a gay relationship. Firstly, why do you have to polute a credible drama with an overt and unrealistic gay theme? Secondly, I have lived in these communities and the prospect of a white european male and an indigenous male becoming involved in a relationship is so obscure or unlikely that it should not even be considered in the plot of your series. Thirdly, please remember that gay/lesbians only represent 2% of the population. That means 98% of the population are likely to prefer that their TV screens are not polluted with this sort of behaviour.
24 July 2007
Margaret says:
Thanks SBS. Great show. Great cast.
Couragous performances.
Kelton Pell, always compelling, David Ngoomanjurra, the best I have ever seen him, Aaron Pederson, just a wealth of talent and he has to be one of Australias best leading men and finally the charismatic LeRoy Parsons, where has he been hiding! The camera loves him and the range and quiet intensity of his performance is impressive. What talent. Great writing! I am enjoying it so much more than RAN which I felt skimmed over the really interesting stories about the community.
Well done to everyone involved.

Congratulations on this oustanding series. Well done SBS for having the courage to feature a series covering the hard issues and as it's turned, extremely topical. The acting is brilliant and the writers have done a wonderful job. I imagine this series has given Broome locals great opportunities and heres hoping there will be a second series. Six episodes is not enough. I enjoy reading the feedback on this great web site after each episode and encourage everyone to have "your say".

Thanks for putting on such an insightful yet entertaining show about indigenous justice in the bush. Top effort with the cast and story! If these comments on this page are anything to go by, we can be expecting a series 2 now cant we?? looking forward to the next episode!

I'm really enjoying this show, brill acting from the aussie cast and great to see the kimberley being featured. I lived in Broome for 10 years and its good to see it all again. Hopefully this may help bring attention to the need for more legal people to work there!
well done SBS.

I love this show - we wait each week for the next episode. Well done SBS. The casting of characters is wonderful, but can someone tell me who Harry Pope is?
He looks like David Gulilpul (can't remember the spelling) and it is driving me crazy. Cannot see his name in the credits. Does anybody know?

Robert Bishop says:
Thank you SBS.
As always in regards to the presentation of indigenous issues you are right on the money.
Any reconciliation between peoples comes about when they respect and understand each others stories in the widest sense of that term.
Setting the drama in the realm of a courtroom is a brilliant dramatic device-beautifully playing on the resonance and dissonance inherent in both Aboriginal and European notions of Law.
Australia desperately needs dramas like this and RAN.
We need to move this country away from the usual non reflective, self congratulatory bilge that passes for local content on TV.
Best of luck
Robert Bishop

A truly brilliant show. I hope it maintains the various themes and doesn't try to finish comfortably. How do you get the masses to see and be educated by this program rather than look at the non-Australian rubbish on commercial TV? Maybe the word will get out and your ratings will soar. Keep 'em coming!

I downloaded episode 1 from the internet last night and watched it this morning here in Apache Junction Arizona. I enjoyed it very much and look forward to seeing the rest. Australian TV is like a breath of fresh air. USA justice is the same. If your poor you get little of it. If rich or famous you get the best. Thanks for the great program.

Susan says:
The Circuit is absolutely brilliant. So great to see a program filmed in the amazing State of WA. I think your series is doing an excellent job of capturing the diversity of this land and its people.
I missed Episode 2 due to a DVD (human) programming failure and was NOT happy. Good thing you have recaps online.
Hope to see this Mini Series on DVD in the SBS Shop after the completion of Episode 6.
Looking forward to July 22nd at 9:30pm.
Good choice SBS.

17 July 2007
Keith Ginbey says:
I knew nothing of The Circuit until two of my friends suggested I watch it because they thought the character of Sgt Temple and myself had much in common. I watched the second episode and had to agree. You see, I was the Police Prosecutor in the Kimberley not long ago. I can identify with some of the other characters as people I worked with at the time. I commend SBS on the overall accuracy of the issues covered in the administration of Justice in the Kimberley and how they are dealt with in the courtroom. Even the bio reflects yours truly. I didn't know I was being observed.

Brilliant - at last, a superb Australian TV mini series! I'm totally captivated by this thought provoking show which raises the diveristy of issues facing our Australian Indigenoues culture. A culture I rarely see or understand from my cosy little corner of Melbourne suburbia. Congratulions to all concerned in the production of The Circuit. World Class!
17 July 2007
Sherrell Dyer says:
Thankyou SBS and the wonderful cast & crew of Circuit. It's a credit to people like yourselves to portray realistic perspectives of two cultures caught in one world. I have enjoyed watching the first two series and look forward to the next four, eagerly. I'm sure there will be more issues and adventures to share within the vast diversity of Australian Indigenoues culture for many years to come. I intend to promote such positive and realistic views through the education of our non- Indigenious people and Great materials such as this.Welldone!

Heather says:
Thank heavens there is some quality Australian drama still being written and produced! Congratulations for giving the Australian people something other than "reality" programmes, based on the lowest common denomination, to watch. Relevant, thought provoking television.
The shakey camera work is distracting, however, though I'm guessing that the director thought it would give a more "documentary" feel to the drama.
We're looking forward to next Sunday night's episode.

Missed the first ep and promised myself I would see ep 2. I was not disappointed. I think that the show captures the complexities of the legal systems and allows for relevant issues to be explored but perhaps more importantly shows Aboriginal people as individuals rather than as stereotypes. Entertaining and absorbing. I did not want the episode to end. Well done!
16 July 2007
cheryl foster says:
Hey all you deadly black actors, I think that the circuit is a fantastic show and iam very proud to see my people participate in a mini series that highlights the real issues that our mob face everyday. My only dissappointment that it is only 6 episodes. I can't get enough. Congratulations to all.
16 July 2007
F Diamond says:
What a great show. I lived and worked in the Kimberley region for over 2 years and gradually got to know the issues of the region and that things just aren't "black and white". This show helps to dispel the misconceptions that are often voiced about life in indigenous communities as well as confronting the issues prevalent there. Nice to see some familiar faces from around Broome, too.
16 July 2007
Anna Faithfull says:
Congratulations SBS and all involved with this series - it really is brilliant. I spent last night and this morning mulling over and savouring last night's episode! A TV show hasn't provoked that sort of thought for me for quite a while. Well done!

Congratulations on the presentation of such a beautiful mini series. Although so far I've only been lucky enough to see episodes 1 and 2, I intend to watch the next 4. Currently in year 12, I plan to do my major English project on the issues addressed in this remarkable series. The Circuit is a refreshing , high quality Australian Drama that really raises the bar for future productions. It's wonderful to see the Aboriginal culture presented in such an appealing and unbiased manner. Well done to everyone involved. Thankyou SBS.

Maria Quinn says:
This is perhaps the most important drama ever produced for television in this country. And the timing couldn't be better. Would that its audience could be as large as the garbage constantly fed to
the majority of viewers. Without avoiding the real problems that exist, it shows a broader spectrum of indigenous society than anyone has dared to tackle before. Not just the blackfella in the bush, but the urbane and educated, still struggling with the dichotomy of identity. It is a fine argument against the recent actions of this present government. If parliament re-convenes to pass these obscene proposed laws, every voting member should first be made to watch this intelligent programme. Drama, yes, but not as fictional as many would like to believe. I hope it rates its socks off. (But then I'm an optimist.)

Bob Ronai says:
Congratulations on a really captivating series. The characters are just marvellous, so real and so refreshing. The countryside is well, so Australian, so fascinating to us city-slickers. The storyline is wonderfully different to everything else dished out to us on TV. another great episode. It tells another side of the story that too many non Indigenous people do not hear about or think about when they see or hear about Indigenous people. Well done Aaron, Gary ,Kelton, other cast and the directors.

I echo Dave P's comments: great show but marred by shaky camera work, making it difficult to watch (i.e. nausia-inducing) on a "large" (42") screen. If that doesn't improve, I don't know that we'll keep watching.

Trish says:
I relly enjoyed the first episode. Refreshing to see the real story being told about our indigenous brothers and sisters and the inequality they are subjected to on a daily basis. I will be tuning in for the next five episodes.

Best Aussie drama for some time. It is a pitty that is on late on a Sunday night. It deserves prime time.

Hmm... I seen a documentary some time ago with the exact same response to 'cattle duffing' from a Magistrate to a Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lawyer I know... We can only wish that that the 'cultural' issues faced in the Torres Straits with RAN, do not occur in this production. I must thank you for the acknowledgment of the black bourgeoisie. I also would like the BB for their input. Kelton Pell is no doubt the most under rated 'grass roots' Aboriginal actor in this country! Well done to all...

Brilliant production and class acting.Having worked in Broome many years ago I have great interest in the settings and the multi cultural aspects.
Looking forward to the remaining episodes - great work SBS.

Rosalie says:
I was really looking forward to this Australian series and it didn't disappoint. There is a real dearth of shows featuring Indigenous Australians and their stories. The characters seem well drawn and the plot lines are sure to develop into some really interesting, and confronting stories. I 'am SO heartened that it doesn't seem like the show will avoid the difficult issues. I always love David Bridie's music whilst the Pigrim Brothers songs are so evocative of Broome. Best wishes to all.

Having lived in the Kimberley for the last 30 years, I am always sceptical about how the Kimberley will be portrayed. If the rest of the shows are anywhere as good as the first then it will be a first rate production. Congratulations to all involved.

Dr Phil Mayes says:
As a past resident of the Kimberley region it gave me great delight to view the 1st episode of " The Circuit". It was delightful to see such a unique region of Australia brought into the living rooms of Australia. The cast must also be acknowledged for their fine perfomrances in bringing to our screens such a confronting issue as the law and justice system in this remote region. I hold dear to my heart this region of Australia and cannot wait for further episodes of the series. Well done SBS in supporting this series.

I really enjoyed the first episode of this new series and can't wait for next Sunday night. It is a pity there will be only six episodes in this series and it shows a genuine Australian story. Well done SBS.

Nice work there SBS and the Circuit team. Saw an old mate of mine in the show, she had a costarring role. Always knew you'd be in showbiz Sylvia!
Only thing i found slightly detracting is the camera work, fast zooming, pull backs, shakiness (seasick inducing) etc can have a negative effect on the viewing experience. Reminded me of the old ABC show, Wildside in that regard but more so.
Otherwise good stuff! Looking forward to the rest of the episodes and hopefully another series!

John Solvyns says:
Why oh why does that camera have to move around so much... zoom in, zoom out, jump around etc, once again I've had to reach for my 'quell' tablets... pity, it's got the makings of a great series, if only the camera could stand still long enough.

Sue says:
I thought The Circuit was terrific and I look forward to the rest of the series. But why is it tucked away at 9.30 on a Sunday night? This is a story about us and should be on at a better time when more people will watch it.

this is a brilliant work of art by sbs, I have seen first hand the aboriginal communities in the northern territory and this can be nothing other than a very truthful recreation of our indiginous folk and the law. very educational TV, congratulations to all involved

Thank-you SBS for providing quality Australian (Indigenous) drama, firstly with RAN and now The Circuit. The first episode had me hooked and in tears by the end. The cast were superb and wonderfully supported by the beautiful Kimberley scenery - true spirit country. A timely reminder of the difficulties associated with remote area living and the interface between white and black law. Congratulations!

carol ralph says:
Well I must give my congratulations on the program last night. I cannot express my congratulations enough. Everything about the program is superb. It is great to see such wonderful casting. I have been impressed with the work of Aaron Pedersen for many years now and have thought he should front a series of his own. Now that has happened, he is so wonderfully supported by Gary Sweet. The writing and the direction is just perfect. I must congratulate all the actors, the cameramen, the writers. For many years we in Australia have needed the focus of stories, be them made into television programs, film or books. This program has made Australian Television come of age.
My congratulations to Catriona McKenzie, bravo! Thank you SBS for giving us intelligent, informative programs. We love you... keep it up!

Congratulations. As a nurse who went to Palm Island in 1995, I identified with the 'culture shock' of Drew's arrival! Actually, my experiences 'up north' led me to study law.
The frustrations explored in the show are true to life, even for city slickers representing disenfranchised clients...

Wow - just thoroughly enjoyed the first episode and checking out the site. Though inititally disappointed by the comparative references to USA, have trawled through the site to find out if actually fimled in the Kimberley - excellent - true landscape and people.
As a relative newcomer - 18 months living and working in Kununurra (on an implusive move from the east coast), I have found the resonance to apsects of life in the Kimberley refreshing - albeit in TV drama style.
Great to see the Pigrim brothers and other Broome locals, Mitch Torres and Pat West involved in this production. Anyway - first impressions are so far all good - life's complexities and journeys enjoyable and personable. cheers

I might put up with commercials on SBS with this quality of program.
Thanks for some real Australian TV. And important TV that can help Australians learn about the lives of the descendants of the original Australians we one day may reconciliate with. I look forward to the subsequent programs. Thanks SBS

Graeme Rodda says:
What a delightful surprise to be able to see a programme with such searching scripts, cast and direction laying bare for all to see the partial truth (yes partial; because it is understated in the first ep.) of just some of the horrible injustices that are dealt out in Australia's outback courts. Episode 1 demonstrated several things - the humanity of some of the circuit judges and court officials, the "two-peoples" justice system under which our indiginuous folk have to survive under, and, importantly, it also touched on the "black mans' " enforcement and indeed bastardisation of tribal influence and law. I just wish that this was filmed after John Howard's federal intervention, where more serious cases could be addressed, with the consequent total messing up of their lives.
However I am sure that in the next series of this leading edge world-class production, such issues will be addressed, and the world will be a better place for it.

A long overdue look from the other side of the hugh problem of just how many indigenous people find themselves at loggerheads with the law. A credible story, with great actors and amazing cinematography. Will definitely be watching the series.

By the chance of channel flicking, I tuned in tonight to The Circuit...how grateful I am!
The cast intrigued me and the story had me hooked through to the end where I cried in frustration in an obvious cultural expectation that we would not possibly have any understanding of. Fiction or not, if this is a window of awareness to see how remotely different our ways of "law enforcement" are, then we have alot to learn, alot more to "watch" and we certainly need to be educated. Bravo and thank you for some great Australian drama that has a message that we all need to hear and "see" more of! I have not written in response to a show before, but I do say, I look forward to more...on a completely trivial note, I adore Drew Ellis!

kerstin says:
This is an awesome series. I would love to own it on dvd. It really shows the truth about how it is in remote communities and how hard it is for the "up town blacks" like Drew and myself to be accepted in remote communities no matter how dark or light your skin is. This is a truely inspiring series, cant wait till next week!
